What: Muji knit blazer (black and charcoal gray)
How Much: $110
Who: Jason Rider, T Magazine’s men’s fashion editor
When it comes to personal style, T’s men’s fashion director, Bruce Pask, and I couldn’t be more different. He lives in precisely tailored suits (well documented by street-style photographers like Tommy Ton). I’m much more comfortable in vintage Japanese sweatshirts and Vans sneakers. So when a single garment gets us both on board — buying multiples of the the two colors it comes in, even — we know we’ve hit on something with universal appeal.
The Muji blazer is slim and slightly abbreviated with high armholes and a tapered waist, not too dissimilar from the cut of jackets we saw on Junya Watanabe’s fall runway or those featured in T’s men’s fashion issue. Its fabrication, however — a cotton-poly blend with a soft, jersey lining — is more akin to the aforementioned sweatshirts I search relentlessly for at stores like Eleven, Extra and 10 Ft. Single. Appropriate for the office with a white shirt and tie and comfortable enough to wear with a T-shirt on long flights, it’s the perfect hybrid (and a great alternative to the terrible travel-friendly tracksuit).
Muji blazer, $110, available in Muji stores in New York. For locations and availability, visit muji.us/store-info.
